# The theology of Mary (Mariology) As part of the Church, Jesus' mother Mary was a legitimately faithful woman. - However, the historical development of Mary as having any spiritual significance only developed after [several centuries of cultural development](history-church.md). - The dominant refutation for this comes through Scripture: there is literally nothing referencing Mary beyond the Gospels throughout the New Testament letters. - This, however, should not undermine the example she sets forward as what a woman of God looks like, which is a side-effect of [the Reformation's developments](theology-solae.md).
