# How to destroy image distortion tactics

These are some of the techniques that have been used to rapidly dispel propaganda of every form.

## Call the tactic out directly

State, in no uncertain terms, the actual tactic being used.

- This is highly confrontational because it's effectively calling the person a [liar](people-lying.md).
- Don't waste time on describing the misdirection, since most misdirections are intentionally distractions from the core reality.

## Indicate missing components

Many times, [language](language.md) will conceal missing information.

- When you can detect it, address it directly.

## Add more truth

Provide factual evidence that refutes the information they're asserting.

- This may be a [scientific study](science.md) or news article, but you can do it yourself in many contexts.

## Provide a counter-narrative

Instead of working to refute their assertions, provide a contrasting [story](stories.md) that explains the situation.

- It simply provides an alternative view, then respects the audience to make [decisions](mind-decisions.md) for themselves over what is true.
- However, be careful how much the story veers into [conspiratorial](politics-conspiracy.md) elements, since more collusion becomes more difficult to believe (even when it's true).

## Reject unspoken premises

Many times, people aren't noting the [philosophy](philosophy.md) hiding behind manipulative language.

- Frequently, simply stating that philosophy is enough for people to reject it.
